Types of commenting on newspaper articles

Informative newspaper articles are based on factuality and objectivity.

However, there are also commenting newspaper articles in which the opinion of the author is asked. Below you will find an overview and Buy Term Paper.

comment

In a commentary , the author comments on current social, economic or political events.

He paraphrases his own opinion in an analytical way – with the aim of encouraging the reader to form an opinion. The personal opinion of the author is therefore the core statement of this type of text.

A comment often also includes stylistic devices such as irony and sarcasm . In addition, the author presents complex facts in a simplified way so that the readership can identify with the core statement of the commentary.

Social media platforms are useful tools for gathering information and should, in theory, also contribute to democratisation.

But in light of recent events in Europe and the issue of social media regulation, MEPs are debating the state of freedom of expression and disinformation campaigns online.

Because even politicians have taken advantage of social platforms in recent years to influence elections abroad. But what is social media doing about it? One could get the impression that the platforms don’t care – because only growth counts. And that at the expense of democracy.

column

The column is a special form of comment that also reflects the views of the author. It appears daily or weekly in the newspaper and is repeatedly written by the same author or by guest authors.

The aim of the column is to entertain and bind readers. It is usually written in the first person and can always be found in the same place in the newspaper or magazine. The topics of a column are wide-ranging and range from politics and economics to everyday events.

gloss

The glosse largely criticises current issues and puts them in a funny and original context – with the aim of making the reader think.

It is a short form of representation and is closely related to the commentary.

The difference, however, lies in the language skills, because the gloss thrives on pointed formulations and puns.

It often ends with a funny or profound punch line. By default, the gloss appears in a margin column in the newspaper.

In addition to the journalistic form of presentation, there is also a lyrical text type. Learn more about rhetorical devices and their meaning here.

criticism

The criticism is also called review and deals with cultural offers. These include, for example, plays, concerts and exhibitions.

The critic lays open his standards and underpins the criticism with factual arguments. In the criticism, the author links content-related information with an evaluation.

With the help of his excellent leading actors, the director tells the story of the last part of the trilogy. The fact that the stylistically successful build-up of tension repeatedly comes to nothing despite great action scenes is mainly due to the predictability of the screenplay. But also because the tragic love story touches the viewers too little.

interview

The interview is the imprint of a conversation in the form of a dialogue. It consists of questions and answers, often arranged according to specific subject areas. The interviewer usually shortens the answers and prepares them linguistically.
